Joseph
Pilates created his technique in the 20's in New York.
Nowadays, it is used throughout the world with a range of
1 000 exercises for the control and fluidity of movements
borrowed from modern dance thanks to Rudolf Laban and Martha
Graham.
Inspired by eastern techniques, some exercises go the sources
of yoga and plantar reflexology, mainly focussing the reflection
on the support of the foot.
The Pilates method is based on
six main principles which are : the Centre, Breathing, Concentration,
Precision, Control and Fluidity of Movements.
What is "Power House"?
It is the strengthening of the abdominal area, for an optimum
control of the central axis (the centre) the place where the
spinal column and the pelvis intersect. A method which is
entirely devoted to a harmonious balance between spirit and
body.
"a healthy spirit in a healthy
body "
It is also a means of re-education recommended by many physiotherapists
and osteopaths. Acknowledged for many years in Anglo-Saxon
countries. Also recommended for osteoporosis and circulation
problems.
The Pilates method is also aimed
at sport and art environment in general, to people suffering
from some lesions of the locomotor apparatus and rachis (spinal
column) to old people, pregnant women and children above ten
years old.
